How to use it

Project the page. Students read a letter to the problem page of The Weekly Leaf, then work in pairs at the advice desk: each adviser has advice structures they must use at least once, such as You should…, If I were you, I’d…, Why don’t you…?, How about + -ing…?, You could… and You ought to….

Set the timer, let pairs talk it through, then add a P.S. twist and see if their advice changes. Pairs share their best advice and the class votes in the readers’ poll. Finish by reading Aunt Sage’s own reply as a model, then move on to the next letter.
